Board of Director Role Descriptions
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is the PTA’s elected officer team — the group responsible for coordinating day-to-day leadership and keeping the PTA running smoothly between meetings. In Georgia PTA local-unit bylaws, the Executive Committee is made up of the elected officers, and the parliamentarian, who is appointed.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is the broader leadership group that manages the affairs of the PTA in the intervals between general membership meetings, advancing PTA's mission to support students, staff and families. The Board as including elected officers, standing committee chairs, the principal (or the principal’s representative), and the parliamentarian.
Meetings & updates
All executive committee members are required to attend Executive Committee meetings, in addition to Board of Directors meetings, and provide updates each month. Board members also join general PTA meetings and assist on-site at PTA events as needed.
The following roles are open for the 2026-2027 school year. All roles have a maximum term of two years, requiring re-election each year.

Co-President
Co-Presidents help keep the PTA moving in the right direction — supporting VPs, coordinating priorities, and keeping communication flowing between PTA leadership and school administration. Co-Presidents run monthly Executive Committee and Board of Directors meetings, plus a minimum of three general membership meetings each year. Board members also support PTA events on-site as needed.

Works closely with
VP Communications, VP Events, VP Family Engagement, VP Fundraising, Secretary, Treasurer.
VP, Communications
VP Communications manages the weekly PTA newsletter and other communications in coordination with PTA committees and helps coordinate communication between PTA and Murdock administration as it relates to the school’s weekly newsletter. This role also supports the committees that fall under Communications as needed.

Board of Directors & Committees
Social Media, Technology
VP, Events
VP Events plans and executes major PTA events, including: Fall Festival, Winter Dance/Event, International Night, and Screen on the Green. The VP is encouraged to delegate by building volunteer teams or event committees. This role is also responsible for setting and staying within event budgets, and overseeing/supporting the committees in the events lane.

Staff Appreciation, East Cobb Parade, International Night Co-Chairs
Secretary
The Secretary supports the PTA’s organization and continuity. Before monthly meetings, they collect agenda items from fellow board members. At meetings, they provide the agenda, take meeting minutes, and organize agendas/minutes electronically. This is an Executive Committee role under the Co-Presidents, and board members also assist on-site at PTA events as needed.

Treasurer
Treasurer is the authorized custodian of PTA funds and is responsible for financial management: receiving and disbursing funds in accordance with bylaws and the approved budget, reporting at meetings, maintaining records/receipts, depositing and reconciling funds, and preparing year-end reporting for audit.
