Help Shape Next Year at Murdock

Every event you love at Murdock exists because a parent raised their hand. Fall Festival, Screen on the Green, Winter Wonderland, International Night ... all of it runs on volunteer leadership from families just like yours.

We are building our committee team for 2026-2027, and we have room for you. You do not need prior experience. You do not need a wide open schedule. Most of our committees are designed to fit around a real life, and every chair and committee member works directly with a member of our executive committee who has their back.

Below are five of the 24 committees that make Murdock PTA run. From coordinating the library's author visits to welcoming kindergarten families on their first day, there is something here for every kind of volunteer. Browse the full list of committee descriptions.

Here are a few roles worth knowing about this year.

Communications Committee
This is a brand new committee, and one of the most flexible ways to get involved. We are building a team of writers, designers, and photographers who can contribute as much or as little as their schedule allows — from a single newsletter blurb to a full event campaign. If you have communications, marketing, or creative skills and have been looking for a flexible way to put them to work, this committee was built for you.

Festival Committee
This committee brings two of the most anticipated events on the Murdock calendar to life: Fall Festival and Screen on the Green. The work spans vendor coordination, activity planning, communications, and day-of execution. It is a true team effort, and the kind of role where you can see exactly what your work made possible.

Winter Wonderland
This year's expanded format set a new bar for what this event can be. The incoming chair gets to build on that momentum or take it in an entirely new direction. We are looking for creative, community-minded parents who love bringing people together.

School Supply Kits
This is a brand new program that takes the back-to-school scramble off Murdock families' plates. The chair coordinates grade-specific supply lists in the winter and oversees kit distribution at Meet and Greet. It is one of our most straightforward roles, and the payoff for families is immediate and real.

Staff Appreciation
This committee makes sure our teachers, staff, administrators, and bus drivers know how much they are valued — through luncheons, breakfasts, snack bars, and surprise treats throughout the year. The work is as fun as it is meaningful, and this committee genuinely benefits from more hands.

Not sure where you fit? That is exactly what the form is for. Fill it out, tell us what interests you, and someone from our team will follow up to talk it through. No commitment required to raise your hand.
